Clickmarks Secures Deal with
U.S. Geological Survey
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA – December
21, 2004
Clickmarks announced today that
U.S. Geological Survey’s my.NBII.gov,
a portal based on Plumtree Software’s
portal framework, will be applying
Clickmarks’ Portlet Factory
to visually integrate various NBII
backend systems into their Plumtree
Portal.
The Clickmarks Portlet Factory
provides an environment for visually
integrating with existing systems.
Using the Clickmarks solution, developers
interact with the original applications
through a browser interface - just
like a normal user would –
capturing relevant content and functionality
along the way. This process, known
as Presentation Level Integration
(PLI), dramatically reduces portlet
development time - from weeks or
months to days.
The NBII’s IT department
used Clickmarks software to integrate
key applications into its Gap Analysis
Portal, reducing the amount of bespoke
development to a single week. A
single developer who understood
the applications to integrate with,
but had no access to their source
code or inner workings, was able
to put together a prototype of the
portal in two days. The remainder
of the week was spent testing and
‘tweaking’ the portlets
before final release.
This approach has also been successful
in supporting other NBII Program
goals, using Clickmarks portlet
development tools in areas such
as content synchronization, employee
services, and other business/partner
needs.
“Clickmarks
technology provided us with a set
of powerful tools to aggregate both
information and application functionality
from our research partners. It enabled
us to build and enhance large sections
of the NBII portal in record time,
and at very low cost.”
-Mike Frame, Director USGS Center
for Biological Informatics
“Capturing
USGS as a customer is a doubly gratifying
achievement, representing another
joint success with Plumtree Software
and a new Public Sector win. Clickmarks'
technology provides unprecedented
benefits in cost and time saving
for any portal development and deployment
project: USGS has joins the ranks
of scores of other Clickmarks customers
that have profited from our innovations.”
-Umair Khan, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Clickmarks
