Wireless Messaging Software Co. Semotus To Buy Clickmarks

Wireless enterprise software company Semotus Solutions Inc. said it will buy Clickmarks Inc. in a stock swap. Terms were not disclosed.
Clickmarks, based in Fremont, Calif., has developed software for Web and wireless application development and has a roster of clients including Vodafone Group PLC, Unisys Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc. and Verizon Communication Inc.'s Verizon Wireless.
Tali Durant, corporate counsel for publicly traded Semotus, said Clickmarks' technology is a good fit with Semotus' software, which helps employees access critical systems wirelessly. In particular, Semotus' HipLink software alerts employees wirelessly when network problems arise and enables them to interact with enterprise systems when away from the desktop.
Clickmarks, which generated $1.75 million in revenue in 2004, is expected to become a subsidiary of Semotus when the acquisition closes, expected later this month. Durant said Semotus expects to make no staff reductions at Clickmarks and Umair Khan, Clickmarks' current chief executive, will continue to lead the division.
Draper Fisher Jurvetson ePlanet Ventures, RB Webber & Co., Vodafone Ventures, Mitsubishi Corp., Nippon information Technology Consulting, Ltd., the Refco Group, New Millennium Capital, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Entrust Technologies Inc. and Dot Edu Ventures have invested in Clickmarks.
